That must of been ALOT of eye makeup...

It's a response I got to a friend request on Facebook:

"Thank you for the add, however I am at this time in my life, going to
decline as gracefully as possible. I do not think that we were ever
actually friends and I do recall a very uncomfortable situation at
Nxxx' s funeral in which you humiliated me in front of people that I
cared dearly for. Bygones, yes, however it was a painful moment that
you were happy to facilitate. My life is authentic and toxic free, to
pursue a friendship on a public forum such as FB would be false and
certainly not fair to both of us.
I wish you peace and a happy life. "

Want to know the humiliating thing I did? We were looking at pictures
and she said "Oh, look at how much eye make up I used to wear." and I
said "Oh, what do you mean used to?"

And that was in, get ready, 1993.

Whew! I don't think she's quite as evolved as she thinks she is.

  1. Dawn,
I think you hurt her feelings - and even though it has been 16 years, obviously the remark stung deeply. My guess is that somebody else she cared about humilated/embarrased/wounded her about her make-up prior to when you did - and that's why an otherwise no-biggie remark caused such ire, even all these years later.

Either that or she can't handle the truth.

Or she doesn't want anyone in her life who is catty - and is it possible this wasn't the only thing you ever said to her that hurt ? But it WAS the only one she finally lost it over ?

I dunno. I wasn't there. I just didn't hear cruelty in her answer to you. I heard hurt.

I wonder what would happen if you apologized because you meant it.
Then if she was all snotty, it's totally on her.

There's always two sides to something.

  2. Hmmm.... should I take this as a hint since I just friended you today?

Authentic and toxic free would have been to just ignore your friend request, not hold up old injuries, real or imagined as a way to make you feel bad.

  5. What's been aggravating the shit out of me is that lately, every time I click on the 'find friends' link on facebook, the very first thing I see is my obnoxious ex-husband, grinning like a doofus, with fb's suggestion that I might want to be friends with the jerk. GAH!

  6. I know I have had requests from people I'd rather NOT have access to my photos and info that is unavailable elsewhere. Like obnoxious classmates.....

    I just do not ok them I don't write a passive/agressive note.

  7. You know you can still friend them with a limited profile so they can't see anything right?
